Provide administrative, technical, and creative support for the broad range of marketing and communications strategies and activities undertaken by the Membership & Marketing Department of Smith College Museum of Art, all of which are designed to connect the Museum with its key constituents as well as with the broader community. Emphasis will be placed on building connections with undergraduate audiences.
Administrative and Program Support: Provide administrative, technical, and creative support to the Marketing, Communications, and Membership staff of the Museum. Oversee, administer, and initiate programming for the Student Museum Advisory Council (SMAC), including managing communications with SMAC for the annual major Smith student event, “Night at Your Museum.” Coordinate production of the Museum’s annual report, SCHEMA. Develop student-focused marketing materials related to SCMA exhibitions. Help to promote, coordinate, and staff major programs offered by the Museum including monthly “Members’ Extra,” “Second Fridays” “Miller Lecture,” “Family Days,” “Night at Your Museum” and others. Help research, draft, and issue media announcements on a wide variety of topics, from new acquisitions to special exhibitions. Compile and draft content for Museum marketing and communications materials and social media platforms. Work closely with the Museum’s Membership and Marketing and Education teams to sustain and build SCMA’s social media presence via the Museum’s website, e-blast communications, Facebook, and Instagram with a primary focus on student engagement.
Departmental Operations: Provide support as needed for routine operations including program and event staffing; mailings; departmental phone coverage; and other administrative tasks as requested.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree. Experience in the museum field or a cultural institution desirable.
Skills: Excellent oral, written, organizational, interpersonal, and social media skills. Demonstrated technical experience with Photoshop and/or InDesign desirable.
